No. 8 Duke to Face No. 16 Navy in NCAA Second Round
Eighth-ranked Duke (13-5, 2-3 ACC) will face Navy for just the second time in program history Sunday at 12 p.m. in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Annapolis, Md. … The Blue Devils advanced in the tournament after edging Princeton, 10-9, in double overtime in Friday evening’s first round … Navy (19-1, 6-0 Patriot League) topped Monmouth by a 12-6 score Friday to win its first NCAA Tournament game in program history.

Navy Series History
Sunday’s NCAA Second Round contest marks just the second meeting all-time between Duke and Navy with the Blue Devils winning the only other previous meeting in 2010.

Last Time We Met
In the first meeting between the two programs on March 21, 2010, Duke opened the contest by scoring nine unanswered goals, powering the squad to a 19-10 victory in Durham ...  The Blue Devils tallied 42 shots in the game and did not allow a Navy shot until the 11:42 mark in the first half, limiting the Mids to 22 for the game ... Former Blue Devils Lindsay Gilbride and Christie Kaestner paced the Duke attack with six points apiece and senior goalkeeper Kaitlin Gaiss posted eight saves in the win.

Current Blue Devils vs. Navy
Two current Blue Devils have recorded at least one point against Navy in their careers ... Seniors Makenzie Hommel and Alyssa Ogle both found the back of the net in the 2010 meeting with the Mids ... Senior goalkeeper Kaitlin Gaiss collected the third win of her career and matched a career-high with eight saves in that contest.

Scouting the Mids
Sixteenth-ranked and eighth-seeded Navy (19-1) won its first NCAA Tournament game in program history Friday, topping Monmouth by a 12-6 score to reach Sunday’s second round ... Jasmine DePompeo leads the team in scoring with 126 points on 56 goals and 70 assists while Aimee Gennaro and Loren Generi have registered 62 goals each this spring ... Generi also paces Navy at the draw with 107 in 20 games ... Midfielder Lindsay Rheiner owns a team-high 17 caused turnovers ... In goal, Annie Foky has posted a 17-1 record to go with a 6.97 goals against average and a .450 save percentage ... Foky also leads the Mids with 40 ground balls on the season.

Scouting the Blue Devils
Eighth-ranked Duke (13-5, 2-3 ACC) reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a thrilling 10-9 win over Princeton in double overtime Friday evening in Annapolis ... Sophomore Kerrin Maurer leads the team in points (63) and assists (30) while senior Makenzie Hommel (44) and sophomore Taylor Trimble (33) are the squad’s top goal scorers ... Maurer ranked second in the league in assists per game (1.59) and fifth in points per game (3.47) entering the tournament ... Junior Taylor Virden ranked second on the squad and third in the ACC with an average of 1.81 ground balls per contest and moved into seventh on the program’s all-time draw controls list with 117 for her career ... Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea is 9-4 this spring with an average of 6.61 saves per game, a .496 save percentage and an average of 1.67 ground balls per contest.

Last Time Out
Freshman midfielder Maddy Acton fired the game-winning goal in double overtime to send Duke to a thrilling 10-9 NCAA First Round victory over Princeton Friday evening at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium ... Acton, junior Maddy Morrissey and sophomore Taylor Trimble finished with two scores apiece while sophomore Kerrin Maurer led the squad with four points (1g, 3a) ... The Blue Devils outshot Princeton, 25-20, but the Tigers held a 17-5 advantage at the draw ... Junior Molly Quirke tallied three draw controls and freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea and sophomore defender Gabby Moise picked up three ground balls each in the win ... Duke head coach Kerstin Kimel spent her playing career at Maryland (1990-03) under the tutelage of current Navy head coach Cindy Timchal ... Timchal is the NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse all-time wins leader, compiling a record of 431-109 in 31 seasons as a head coach ... Navy associate head coach Allison Fondale spent six seasons as an assistant and then associate head coach with Kimel at Duke from 1999 to 2004 ... Duryea Maturing Quickly in the Cage
Freshman Kelsey Duryea has been solid in the net since making her first appearance in the second half against Maryland on Feb. 24 ... Duryea has started all 13 contests since then, ranking fourth nationally in save percentage and 15th in saves per game entering the tournament ... The Beverly, Mass., native was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this spring on Apr. 23 following a pair of wins against Davidson and Ohio State ... Duryea recorded a season-high 15 stops against North Carolina on March 28, making her one of just four netminders in program history to notch 15 or more saves in a game.

Attack Duo Moving Up Career Lists
Senior Makenzie Hommel and sophomore Kerrin Maurer have both enjoyed successful seasons ... Hommel has registered a team-high 44 goals to go with 10 assists for a total of 54 points, while Maurer owns 33 goals and leads the team in assists (30) and points (63) ... Hommel surpassed the 100-point mark for her career with a two-goal performance against Boston College (Apr. 6) ... Maurer reached the 100-point barrier with a five-point performance against Davidson (Apr. 17) and topped the 50-assist milestone in a win over Ohio State (Apr. 20) ... Maurer is currently tied for 10th on the program’s all-time career assists chart with 54 in just two seasons.

In just her second season, sophomore attacker Kerrin Maurer continues to etch her name into the program record books ... The Setauket, N.Y., native’s team-leading 30 assists this spring rank her tied for sixth on Duke’s single season assist chart, up nine spots from a year ago ... Maurer also comes in at 19th on the Blue Devils’ single season list for points with a team-high 63 points in 18 contests.

Rookies Make Immediate Impact
Six Blue Devil freshmen have seen the field this season with Maddy Acton, Kelsey Duryea and Kelci Smesko entering the starting lineup ... Smesko has started every contest at attack and has tallied 42 points (26g, 16a), with the 16 helpers ranking her second on the squad ... Acton has played in every game with six starts, recording 20 points (17g, 3a) ... Acton also had the game-winning goal in double overtime in an NCAA Tournament first round victory over Princeton ... Duryea made her first appearance between the pipes in the second half against Maryland and has started the 13 games since then ... She ranked fourth in the country in save percentage and was 15th in saves per game entering the weekend.
