DURHAM, N.C. – The final Golf World/Nike Golf Division I College Coaches’ Poll of the 2013 spring season has been release, and the Duke men’s golf team were listed at No. 7 in the country, as announced by the organization Wednesday. The Blue Devils look to continue their outstanding season May 16-18 at the NCAA Tempe Regional at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
California enters the postseason as unanimous No. 1 selection in the final poll, after recording 10 tournament titles in 12 outings. Alabama, the SEC Champion, and defending NCAA champion Texas fill out the second and third position respectively, while New Mexico and UCLA round out the top five by sharing the fourth spot in the rankings.
The Blue Devils are coming off an impressive showing at the 2013 ACC Championship in which the squad fired a school record 25-under par, 839 en route to its seventh league title and its first since 2005. Led by senior Brinson Paolini, Duke has notched a school-record five tournaments this season. Paolini, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., enters the NCAA Tempe Regional with a 71.75 stroke average, while recording four top 5s, six top 10s and 10 top 20s in 10 events this season.
Duke opens NCAA Regional play at the ASU Karsten Golf Course Thursday, May 16 and will continue with 18 holes both Friday and Saturday. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals, which will be held May 28-June 2, at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga.
