MOSCOW – Former Duke Blue Devil Shannon Rowbury placed seventh in the final of her first-ever International Association of Athletics Federations World Championship 5,000-meter race on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Covering the distance in 15:06.10, Rowbury bettered her season-best mark of 15:18.06 by nearly 12 seconds.

The Duke alum will follow her world championship effort by entering an IAAF Diamond League meet in Stockholm, where she will compete in the 3,000-meter race. The IAAF Diamond League circuit uses a scoring system to determine the overall “Diamond Race” winner for each discipline, tallied at the conclusion of the season. Rowbury currently ranks fourth in the 3,000/5,000-meter discipline, following a first-place finish on July 26 in London, where she ran a time of 8:41.46 over 3,000-meters.

The San Francisco native owns the Women’s Track & Field Indoor 3,000-meter record at Duke, with a time of 9:02.73.

Rowbury is scheduled to compete on Thursday, Aug. 22 in Stockholm.
