DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team is set for a road match at Notre Dame, meeting the Fighting Irish for the first time as conference opponents Wednesday, Oct. 2 The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Notre Dame’s Purcell Pavilion.

Notre Dame’s official site (www.und.com) will provide both Gametracker coverage and live video (http://watchnd.tv/#!/games/1702769) of Wednesday’s contest.

Duke (11-2, 2-0 ACC) just wrapped up a seven-match home stand, going undefeated with five sweeps during that span. The Blue Devils opened the ACC schedule with two straight-set victories, downing both Virginia and Virginia Tech 3-0 in Cameron Indoor Stadium this past weekend.

Overall, Duke ranks third nationally in kills per set (15.22) and fourth in assists per set (13.88) as the Blue Devils lead the ACC in both categories. The Blue Devils’ outside hitter tandem of sophomore Emily Sklar and junior Jeme Obeime paces Duke with 143 and 137 kills, respectively. One of the key components to Duke’s offense, junior setter Maggie Deichmeister also ranks third in the conference with an average of 10.83 assists per frame.

Senior libero Ali McCurdy leads the team with 159 digs, helping Duke limit opposing teams to a .153 hitting percentage. McCurdy ranks second nationally among active players with 2,132 career digs, 68 shy of the school record. In addition, the Tampa, Fla., native’s career 5.20 digs per set average is the best in program history and currently ranks fifth in the nation among active players.

Notre Dame (6-7, 0-2 ACC) is in search of its first ACC win after falling at North Carolina and NC State during the conference’s opening weekend. The Irish have been solid at home, posting a 4-1 record at the Purcell Pavilion in 2013.

Junior outside hitter Toni Alugbue and junior middle blocker/rightside hitter Jeni Houser pace the Irish offense, totaling 147 and 141 kills, respectively. Houser also leads the team in blocks with 51, averaging nearly a block per set.

Notre Dame holds a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series, boasting a five-match win streak against the Blue Devils. The two teams first met Oct. 23, 1982, but have only faced each other once since 2000. Duke last took the court against Notre Dame Sept. 16, 2006 at the Sun Devil Classic in Tempe, Ariz., falling in four sets to the Fighting Irish.

Duke returns home this weekend for a 2 p.m. conference tilt against Wake Forest Sunday, Oct. 6.
