Prep: A three-year letterwinner for Paul Bass at Westhampton Beach High School … Compiled a 118-9 scholastic record, including an 81-4 mark his final two seasons … New York State Division I runner-up in 2013 and earned third-place honors in 2012 … A two-time Suffolk county champion … Helped lead Westhampton Beach to the 2013 league title … Compiled a record 37 pins in his junior campaign … Was a member of the National Honor Society … Selected as a News12 Scholar Athlete.
Personal: Born Alexander Phillip Tanzman on November 8, 1995 in Oceanside, N.Y. … Son of David Tanzman … has two brothers, Nick and Matt.
Get to know Alex: When did you start wrestling and what is your first wrestling memory?
Alex Tanzman: “I first started wrestling I’d say in second grade. My first memory would probably be that I won the kids’ state championship when I was in third grade.”
GD: Do you have any superstitions or rituals before matches?
AT: Nope
GD: New York Giants or New York Jets?
AT: Giants all the way.
GD: Favorite New York Giants Player?
AT: Victor Cruz – but the Giants aren’t looking too hot right now.
GD: Yankees or Mets?
AT: I’m not too big into baseball, but I’d have to say Yankees
GD: What has been your favorite class so far?
AT: I like my psychology class. It’s just psych 101 and it’s interesting.
GD: What is the last movie you saw?
AT: This is the End – it was a funny movie.
GD: Beach or mountains?
AT: Beach, I live on the beach. My local beach, Westhampton, I go to every day.
GD: Favorite home cooked meal?
AT: Probably my mom’s Phillipino dish called chicken adobo. It’s really good.
GD: Chocolate or vanilla?
AT: Chocolate
GD: Do you have any special talents?
AT: I can wakeboard
GD: What sport other than wrestling would you have like to have played?
AT: Competitively, I don’t know if I could play many other sports because of my size, but I probably would have snowboarded or wakeboarded. I like lacrosse too.
