Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper and Durham, N.C., product Lauren Blazing leads all Division I goalkeepers in save percentage with a .832 clip through 13 games … She has compiled a 1.12 goals against average in addition to guiding the defense to three shutouts … The Durham, N.C., native was named the ACC Player of the Week and the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week following a career-high 22-save performance in a 3-2 shootout win over previously top-ranked and unbeaten North Carolina Sept. 27.
Balanced Scoring by Blue Devil Offense
Twelve different Duke players have tallied a point through 12 games this fall … Ten different Blue Devils have registered a goal, led by senior Emmie Le Marchand with seven … Le Marchand paces the squad with 21 points … Junior midfielder Abby Beltrani has totaled a career-best eight assists to tie for fifth in the ACC in assists per game … Five different players scored in Duke’s 6-0 win over Radford Sept. 22.
Heimbach Anchors Back Line
Senior defender Paula Heimbach continues to be one of the Blue Devils’ most dependable backs in 2013 … An All-ACC honoree and Longstreth/NFHCA third team All-America selection last fall, Heimbach was tabbed to the Preseason All-ACC squad last month by a vote of the league’s seven head coaches … She tallied the Blue Devils’ first defensive save of the year against Syracuse Oct. 11 … Heimbach and the Duke defense own three shutouts on the year and currently allow just 1.16 goals per game to rank second in the ACC.
Le Marchand Moving Up Career Charts
After topping the 100-point mark for her career earlier this season, senior forward Emmie Le Marchand continues to etch her name into the program record books … With 112 points for her career, the Worcester, England product currently sits ninth overall in school history … Le Marchand also ranks eighth all-time in career goals (45) and 17th in career assists (22).
ACC Well-Represented in NFHCA Coaches Poll
The ACC continues to dominate the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, placing six schools within the top eight … The Blue Devils fell one spot to No. 8 in the poll this week following last weekend’s double overtime loss to Syracuse … Maryland maintains the top spot in this week’s poll while North Carolina dropped to No. 3 … Syracuse (4), Virginia (6) and Boston College (7) are also within the top 10.
