DURHAM, N.C. -- Redshirt junior tight end Braxton Deaver was named Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after helping the Blue Devils to a 35-22 come-from-behind road win over Virginia Saturday.
The Charlotte, N.C., native finished the contest with three catches for 96 yards and a pair of touchdowns. With Duke trailing 22-17 and facing 4th-and-1 early in the fourth quarter, Deaver took a short swing pass from Brandon Connette and sprinted down the right hashmark for a 47-yard touchdown to give the Blue Devils their first lead of the afternoon. He followed up with a 24-yard TD catch from roommate Anthony Boone with 4:17 remaining to extend Duke’s lead to 32-22.
On the season, Deaver has 20 receptions for 296 yards and four touchdowns while catching multiple passes in all seven games.
The Blue Devils, 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the ACC, scored the final 35 points of the game after falling behind 22-0 in the opening half of play. Duke has now topped Virginia in five of the last six meetings between the two schools.
