DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Gilda Doria to learn more about the West Palm Beach, Fla. native.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Gilda Doria: Playing the best teams in the country, all the time, especially in the ACC. I think it’s unbelievable. It’s probably one of the top two conferences, if not the top conference in the country. Probably the friendships I’ve made here. I have a lot of best friends on the team and a lot of close friends. The exposure we have to all of the professors and the great academics we have and the opportunities to get great jobs after we graduate is also something special.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘on the field’ memory?
GD: I have two. Obviously when we went to the final four. I hadn’t really scored, I don’t think, up until that game. I think I scored the last goal. We won 2-0 against Long Beach State and that was my first goal and it lead into the final four, and just going there was unbelievable. That year was just unbelievable and winning the ACC Championship that year. This is kind of random, and nobody probably remembers this game, but we played Miami last year and we beat them in overtime. I’ve never seen our team work so hard. It was a really cool feeling.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘off the field’ memory?
GD: I always liked going to Maddy Haller’s parent’s house. Last year, we had Thanksgiving dinner there. That was really cool. They’re unbelievable chefs. The whole team was together and obviously Thanksgiving is a big part of being with your family and we got to spend it with the team. It was a cool experience.
GoDuke.com: Name three pet peeves.
GD: People who aren’t trustworthy, people who don’t work hard and people who aren’t genuine.
GoDuke.com: Name three things that motivate you to perform.
GD: The feeling of winning, the desire to be the best and I don’t like to lose.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite restaurants in Durham.
GD: Sushi Love, Nanataco and Maggiano’s.
