Duke Alumna Amanda Blumenherst Earns LPGA Award

DURHAM, N.C. – Over the weekend, Duke University women’s golf alumna Amanda Blumenherst was presented with the William & Mousie Powell Award at the LPGA 2013 end-of-the-year award celebration.  The award was voted on by fellow LPGA Tour golfers.  The award was voted on by fellow LPGA Tour golfers.  

Considered one of the most decorated amateur and collegiate golfers of all-time, Blumenherst was presented the William & Mousie Powell Award, which is given to an LPGA member who, in the opinion of her playing peers, by her behavior and deeds, best exemplifies the spirits, ideals and values of the LPGA.

A 2009 Duke graduate, Blumenherst joined the LPGA Tour in 2010 and went on to record six career top-10 finishes before stepping away from the game in August after marrying fellow Blue Devil graduate and Major League Baseball (MLB) standout Nate Freiman.  

The three-time National Player of the Year at Duke, Blumenherst rewrote the Blue Devil record books accumulating 12 victories, 31 top-five finishes, 37 top-10 placements and 41 top 20 finishes.  A product of Scottsdale, Ariz., Blumenherst totaled 78 rounds of even or under par, the top single-season stroke average in school history (71.00) and registered a remarkable 32 straight top 10 finishes from 2005-08.  She held a career scoring average at Duke of 71.67.  

Blumenherst was a four-time All-America, three-time ACC Player of the Year, the only three-time recipient of the Nancy Lopez Award, two-time Honda Award winner, the 2008 U.S. Women’s Amateur Champion, three-time Golfstat Cup winner and a four-time All-ACC selection.  Not only was she a standout on the field, Blumenherst was a three-time Academic All-America.
