DURHAM, N.C.—Former Duke University men’s soccer standout Sebastien Ibeagha has signed a contract through June 2015 with AC Horsens in Denmark’s second division. Ibeagha earned the contract offer following a trial with the club.

Horsens currently sits in second place with the league in winter break. The club will be promoted to Superliga next season if it remains among the top two in the division.

“We have seen Sebastien for a few days, and he has left a very good impression,” Horsens head coach Johnny Mølby said in a statement. “He is a young, exciting and physically strong player who among other things has made his name with a quiet game of ball. He has good potential that we need to work to redeem, and his approach means that we are less vulnerable and have even better competition for positions in the back line.”

Named to the NSCAA All-America third team, Ibeagha anchored Duke’s backline throughout his career. He is a three-time All-ACC selection, including winning first team honors the past two, and was voted the 2012 ACC Defensive Player of the Year after helping Duke to nine shutouts and  0.70 goals against average.

“I left Duke to look for the place I could develop most as a player, and I chose Danish football, where more Americans have done well,” Ibeagha said in a statement. “The players and coaches have shown me a lot of confidence, and everyone in and around the team and the front office have welcomed me.”

This past season, the Missouri City, Texas native played all but 17 minutes at center back. He led the Blue Devils to seven shutouts and a 0.93 goals against average and added two goals to the offensive effort. He was named to the All-ACC first team for his efforts and collected his second consecutive NSCAA All-South Region first team award.

A starter in all 70 contests at Duke, Ibeagha has played 6,379 minutes, scored eight goals and provided three assists while anchoring the Blue Devil backline to 26 shutouts in his career.
