Twichell Wins SwimtheSwan 10K Race in Australia

PERTH, Australia – Former Blue Devil standout Ashley Twichell captured the 10K title at the SwimtheSwan Open Water race Sunday in the Swan River in Perth, Australia. The race was the final competitive event of the 2014 BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series.

Twichell bested the field in the women’s 10K event, winning in a time of 2:03.51, nearly 30 seconds ahead of fellow American Haley Anderson in second (2:04.17). Australia’s Chelsea Gubecka was third at 2:04.18.

Next up, the 2011 Duke graduate and All-American will look to defend her title at the 2014 edition of the aQuelle Midmar Mile, the world’s largest open water swimming event held annually in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Race weekend is slated for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8 and 9.
