DURHAM, N.C. – The third-ranked Duke women’s golf team will open the 2014 spring campaign this weekend when the Blue Devils travel to Palos Verdes, Calif., for the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge Feb. 9-11 at the 6,017-yard, par 71 Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Competing in the 54-hole event will be Arizona (12), Arizona State (7), Baylor, Duke (3), Florida (18), Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma (8), Oklahoma State (11), Pepperdine (6), Texas, UCLA (1), Southern California (2), Wake Forest and Washington (4). Each school will play 18 holes each day. The field includes seven top 10 teams in the nation.
In four tournaments this past fall, Duke turned four top-four finishes, including a victory and a second place ledger. At the Tar Heel Invitational, the Blue Devils carded rounds of 286, 282 and 289 to win by 11 strokes against a solid field, which featured four top 10 teams. The win at the Tar Heel Invitational gave head coach Dan Brooks his 115th career victory with the Blue Devils.
Liu, who is out of China, competed in three tournaments in the fall and collected a team-best 71.67 stroke average, along with three top-10 finishes. A product of Caesarea, Israel, Beck carded three top-10 finishes in four tournaments, while totaling a 71.75 stroke average to lead the way for the Blue Devils.
