DURHAM, N.C. – After Friday evening’s scheduled game at Richmond was postponed due to inclement weather, the Blue Devils resume action Sunday, Feb. 16 at William & Mary.

William & Mary Series History
Sunday’s contest marks the 18th all-time meeting between Duke and William & Mary with the Blue Devils holding a 14-3 advantage in the series ... Duke is 7-1 all-time when facing the Tribe in Williamsburg ... The Blue Devils have won 14 consecutive contests against William & Mary heading into this weekend’s matchup. 

Last Time We Met
Duke used a 9-0 run late in the second half to record a 15-8 victory over the Tribe Feb. 17, 2013 at Koskinen Stadium ... 2013 graduate Makenzie Hommel led the Blue Devils in scoring, finishing with three goals and one assist ... Kerrin Maurer, Kelci Smesko, Brigid Smith and Maddy Acton also posted multiple goals and nine Duke players registered a point in a balanced scoring effort ... Maddie Salamone and Taylor Virden each corralled five draw controls and the defensive unit forced William & Mary into 17 turnovers. 

Scouting the Tribe
Under the direction of first-year head coach Hillary Fratzke, William & Mary kicks off its 2014 season Sunday afternoon against Duke ... The squad returns four of its top five leading scorers from last spring, including senior midfielder Taelor Salmon, who was selected to the Preseason All-CAA Team ... Salmon totaled 38 points (33g, 5a) in 2013 while junior attacker Kaleigh Noon also returns after recording 32 points (13g, 19a) last year.

Scouting the Blue Devils
Fifth-ranked Duke (2-0, 0-0 ACC) opened the 2014 campaign at home last weekend, collecting a pair of victories over Elon and Louisville in non-conference action ... The Blue Devils moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest IWLCA poll, marking the program’s highest ranking since March of 2012 ... The team’s Friday evening contest at Richmond was postponed due to inclement weather ... Junior attacker Kerrin Maurer paced the offense through the first two contests, notching 11 goals and five assists ... Sophomore Kelci Smesko and senior Sydney Peterson have tallied seven points each so far ... Returning All-American defender Taylor Virden leads the way in draw controls (8), ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (3) ... Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Duryea, a second team All-America selection last spring, owns a 7.32 goals against average and a.536 save percentage in the net ... Duke is outscoring its opponents by a 39-15 margin to start the season.

Last Time Out
Junior Kerrin Maurer recorded her second hat trick in as many games, netting five goals to lead Duke to a 14-11 victory over Louisville Feb. 9 at Koskinen Stadium ... With the score knotted at 10-10 early in the second half, the Blue Devils tallied four goals in the final 15 minutes and held up strong on the defensive end to pull away from the Cardinals ... Junior Chelsea Landon, senior Sydney Peterson and junior Erin Tenneson all finished the day with two goals ... Junior Taylor Virden paced Duke at the draw, collecting five wins there to go along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers ... In the cage, sophomore Kelsey Duryea posted 11 saves against 27 shots taken by Louisville to move to 2-0 on the season.

Scheduling the Best
Duke’s 2014 slate currently features eight teams ranked in the top 20 of the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll ... Louisville, the Blue Devils’ second opponent of the season, has received votes in  each of the last two polls.

In the Month of February
Duke has played 49 games all-time in the second month of the year, playing to a 43-6 record … The Blue Devils last lost a February contest in 2013 against Maryland in College Park.

On the Road Again
Duke faces its first road test of the season Sunday at William & Mary ... The program holds an all-time record of 88-52 when playing away from home.

Preseason All-America
Four Blue Devils were named to the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Preseason All-America teams ... 2013 All-Americans Kelsey Duryea and Taylor Virden were named to the first team while junior Taylor Trimble earned a spot on the second team and classmates Kerrin Maurer and Gabby Moise were selected to the third team.

Duke Picked to Finish Fourth in ACC
The ACC released its preseason poll Tuesday, Feb. 4, with the Blue Devils projected to finish fourth in the conference by a vote of the league’s eight head coaches ... 2013 NCAA champion North Carolina was tabbed the preseason favorite while Maryland, last year’s ACC champion and NCAA runner-up, was voted second and conference newcomer Syracuse third ... Senior defender Taylor Virden and sophomore goalkeeper were among 11 returning All-Americans to be named to the Preseason All-ACC Team.

Seniors Molly Quirke, Emma Tucci and Taylor Virden will serve as the team captains for the 2014 season.

Welcome to Duke
The Blue Devils’ class of 2017 is comprised of 10 freshmen from four states and includes Casey Black, Helen Cammerzell, Caitlin Carey, Stuart Humphrey, Isabelle Montagne, Kitty Morrissey, Devon Russell, Paige Russell, Maura Schwitter and Hayley Shaffer … The group was tabbed the No. 6 recruiting class in the nation by Inside Lacrosse … Senior goalkeeper Katherine Fraile also joined the Duke program this fall, transferring from Bucknell.
