DURHAM, N.C. – 2013 NFHCA South Region Coach of the Year Pam Bustin has announced the Duke field hockey program’s schedule for the 2014 campaign, which features matchups against eight 2013 NCAA Tournament teams. The slate is highlighted by the 2014 ACC Championship, which will be hosted by the Blue Devils at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.

Bustin’s squad is set to host nine games at Jack Katz Stadium in 2014, in addition to holding the conference tournament in Durham for the first time since 2008. Duke’s home schedule includes tilts against ACC opponents Virginia, Boston College and North Carolina, while the team will visit ACC newcomer Louisville and make an inaugural trip to Syracuse.

"Once again Duke field hockey looks forward to a challenging fall schedule,” Bustin said. “We are fortunate to compete for the ACC Tournament title on our own Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium in November. Our team loves to play at home, our facility is top-notch and our game operations staff second to none. We are thrilled to host and to welcome the ACC teams and fans to Durham!"

After opening the fall with exhibition matches against Davidson and North Carolina Aug. 17 and 24 in Durham, the Blue Devils will kick off the 2014 season on the road at Michigan State Aug. 29. The squad will also face Central Michigan in East Lansing Aug. 31 before welcoming Princeton Sept. 5 and Temple Sept. 7 for opening weekend at Jack Katz Stadium. Duke will then travel to Old Dominion Sept. 12 and ACC foe Wake Forest Sept. 14.

Virginia visits Durham Sept. 19 for a conference contest following a thrilling one-goal game between the two teams in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship last fall. The Blue Devils make a trip to Williamsburg, Va., to take on William & Mary Sept. 21 and host California the evening of Sept. 26 before opening October on the road at Louisville Oct. 3 and Indiana Oct. 5. Duke defeated the Hoosiers by a 4-0 score in last year’s season opener in Durham.

The Blue Devils begin a four-game homestand Oct. 10 against Boston College, with the two ACC programs squaring off after Duke won last year’s regular season meeting in overtime, 2-1. Non-conference opponent Liberty comes to town Oct. 12, followed by North Carolina Oct. 17 and James Madison Oct. 19. Bustin’s squad topped the then-top ranked Tar Heels last fall in Chapel Hill in a shootout, 3-2, marking a historic win for the program.

Duke will head to Syracuse for the first time in the series history Oct. 25 and then honor its senior class Oct. 27 in the regular season home finale against Pacific. A trip to Richmond Nov. 1 rounds out the schedule, with the Blue Devils then welcoming the other ACC teams Nov. 5-9 for the 2014 ACC Championship. Duke previously hosted the conference tournament in 1989, 1996, 2002 and 2008.

“The ACC should, as usual, provide excellent competition with each conference opponent finishing 2013 in the nation's top 16 RPI, including newcomer Louisville,” Bustin said. “This consistent level of elite competition should set the standard for our preparation and performance day in and day out. Our goal is to prepare each day to be the best. We take one day and one match at a time. We measure our improvement and our performance against ourselves as we strive to meet our goals set forth for that practice, for that game and for our season.”

After compiling a 17-7 record and reaching the NCAA title match last season, the Blue Devils will be in pursuit of the program’s third NCAA Tournament appearance under the guidance of Bustin and her staff. The team is slated to return 13 letterwinners and six starters in 2014, including 2013 All-ACC selections Lauren Blazing and Aileen Johnson.
