Seven Blue Devils Named to All-ACC Academic Team

DURHAM, N.C. – The ACC Office released the All-ACC Women’s Soccer Academic Team on Tuesday with Duke registering seven selections – senior Kaitlyn Kerr, senior Mollie Pathman, redshirt Senior Kim DeCesare, senior Laura Weinberg, junior Kelly Cobb, freshman Christina Gibbons and freshman Lizzy Raben.  The Blue Devils and Virginia Tech led all league teams with seven selections each, while Florida State added five.

Kerr, Pathman and Weinberg earned All-ACC Academic Team honors for the fourth straight year, while DeCesare was selected for the third consecutive season.  

A native of Bensalem, Pa., Kerr closed her Duke career with 76 points, 28 goals and 20 assists, all of which rank in the top 10 on the Blue Devil charts.  The 5-5 midfielder started 81 of 96 career games and was Duke’s all-time leading scorer in NCAA Tournament games with 20 points and nine goals.  As a senior, Kerr started all 24 matches, had five goals and three assists, including two game-winning goals against New Mexico and Pittsburgh.  She was a third-team All-America selection as a sophomore.  Kerr is majoring in Psychology.  

One of the best distributors to ever put on a Blue Devil uniform, Pathman played 87 career contests, while totaling 83 starts in the defense, midfield and forward slots.  Pathman, who is a native of Durham, N.C., collected 29 assists, 17 goals and 63 points over her four years.  Her 29 assists ranked third on the Duke career record books and Pathman’s eight assists in NCAA Tournament play was a Blue Devil record.  Pathman was a two-time All-ACC selection and member of the 2011 NCAA College Cup All-Tournament team.  She helped lead the U.S. U-20 squad to the gold medal at the 2012 U-20 World Cup.  Pathman is majoring in Psychology along with obtaining a Markets and Management certificate.

After moving to the forward position as a junior, DeCesare flourished as a scorer for the Blue Devils posting 22 goals over the last two seasons.  For her career, she finished with 29 goals, 15 assists and 73 points.  DeCesare’s 29 goals ranked sixth all-time at Duke and her 73 points were ninth.  As a senior, she earned All-ACC Third Team accolades, while being selected to the All-ACC Second Team her junior campaign.  DeCesare, who is out of Massapequa Park, N.Y., concluded her career with nine game-winning goals and six contests with two more tallies.  She is majoring in Evolutionary Anthropology and Sociology.

One of Duke’s all-time greatest scorers, Weinberg closed her Duke career ranking second in points (100), third in goals (39) and tied for fourth in assists (22).  Weinberg, who is out of Boca Raton, Fla., played in a school-record 97 games over her four years and notched eight multi-goal contests.  As a senior, she notched 14 points on five goals and four assists.  Weinberg is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District III selection and Capital One Academic All-America as a junior.  She is obtaining Sociology and History degrees along with a Markets and Management certificate.  

A native of Chugiak, Alaska, Cobb started 23 of 24 matches as a junior for the Blue Devils.  The 5-9 forward notched a team-high seven goals, while collecting three assists and 17 points on season.  Cobb has registered 20 goals, 12 assists and 52 points over three years at Duke.  She owns seven career game-winning goals.  Cobb is majoring in Psychology.  

Gibbons, who is a product of Raleigh, N.C., started all 24 contests, guided the Blue Devil defense to seven shutouts and played a team-best 2,228 minutes, which was a school-record for a freshman.  One of the most consistent players on the team in 2013, Gibbons registered assists against Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament, Virginia Tech and Kennesaw State.  She earned Freshmen Best XI, All-ACC Freshman team honors as well as Duke Classic All-Tournament team recognition during the season.  

Coming in as a rookie, Raben started 23 of 24 contests for the Blue Devils on the defensive end.  She helped guide Duke to seven shutouts and logged 2,007 minutes, which was the fourth-most on the squad.  

As a team, Duke posted a 9-9-6 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the third straight year before falling at top-seeded Virginia Tech, 3-0.
