Meet Caitlin Carey

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women’s lacrosse head coach Kerstin Kimel welcomed the addition of 11 players to the Blue Devil program this fall, with 10 freshmen and one transfer student joining the squad for the 2014 campaign.

Caitlin Carey
Midfield l Pittsburgh, Pa. l Peters Township

Prior to Duke: A US Lacrosse All-American and Academic All-American, Carey joined the Duke program from Peters Township High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. At Peters Township, she totaled 129 goals, 101 assists, 162 draw controls, 179 ground balls and 140 caused turnovers and was named to the 2012 Philadelphia Under Armour All-America team. She was also selected to the WPIAL Division I all-star and all-section squads as well as the WDNT Western Pennsylvania team.

What is your favorite lacrosse memory?
CC: Making Western PA history by playing in the PIAA State semifinal game.

When did you start playing lacrosse?
CC: I started playing lacrosse my freshman year of high school. I threw around with my sister in the backyard before my freshman year of high school and decided to play.

Why did you choose Duke?
CC: It is a great opportunity athletically and academically.

What are your goals for your collegiate career?
CC: To reach my fullest potential as a lacrosse player and win an ACC and NCAA championship!

Who has had the biggest impact on your life?
CC: My sister has had the biggest impact on my life. She’s been a role model to me since I was born and I’ve looked up to her ever since.

Favorite author: Nicholas Sparks
Favorite musician: Blake Shelton
Pre-game ritual/superstition: I don’t have superstitions but I always listen to my music before games.
What do you plan to major in? Economics
If you were to play another sport, what would it be? Basketball. I quit playing freshman year because of soccer and lacrosse but I would love to play basketball again.
Best advice you’ve received: “Gold medals are hung on the wall, silver medals are found in your sock drawer,” from my high school soccer coach.

To be a part of the Duke women’s lacrosse program is … an experience I am looking forward to!
