DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University junior Jason Tahir was named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in his career Tuesday, March 11 after guiding the 10th-ranked Blue Devils to a 7-0 sweep of then-No. 19 NC State in the team’s conference opener Sunday in Raleigh.

Tahir paired with sophomore Michael Redlicki in doubles to top the Wolfpack’s 42nd-ranked tandem of Robbie Mudge and Ian Dempster in the No. 1 matchup, 8-7 (4). With the win, the Duke duo improved to 4-2 in dual match play.

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Tahir extended the Blue Devils’ lead in the match to 2-0 by racing to a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of No. 91 Mudge in the No. 2 singles contest. The decision marked Tahir’s eighth consecutive victory and moved him to 14-4 overall.

Tahir is also one of four Blue Devil players ranked nationally in singles, coming in at No. 40 in the most recent ITA Division I poll. Redlicki leads the squad at No. 30 while senior Fred Saba is 58th and sophomore Bruno Semenzato 92nd.

In doubles, Tahir and Redlicki moved up five spots from their previous national ranking of No. 33 to No. 28.

Duke is in San Diego, Calif., this week to face a pair of non-conference opponents in San Diego State and No. 2 Oklahoma. The Blue Devils will visit the Aztecs Thursday, March 13 at 5 p.m. ET before taking on the Sooners Saturday, March 15 at 5 p.m. ET in San Diego.
