DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s tennis team is spending its spring break on the West Coast and will face a pair of tough opponents in San Diego State and second-ranked Oklahoma Thursday, March 13 and Saturday, March 15 in San Diego, Calif.

San Diego State Series History
The Blue Devils and Aztecs have met just one time in program history, with Duke earning a 5-2 victory on the road March 16, 1992 … San Diego State traveled to Durham earlier this season, falling to North Carolina in the opening round of ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Blue Devils’ Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.

Scouting the Aztecs
San Diego State entered the week with a 6-5 ledger after suffering a 4-3 setback to Rice March 6 … The Aztecs host Penn Wednesday evening before taking on Duke Thursday … The team’s tandem of Freddy Gelbrich and Hendrik Jebens has won six-straight matches at the No. 2 position in doubles while Thorsten Bertsch and Hunter Nicholas lead the way at the top spot with a 5-6 record … Bertsch is 4-5 from the No. 1 position in singles.

Oklahoma Series History
Duke and the Sooners have met just three times previously with the Blue Devils claiming all three matches … The Blue Devils are 2-0 all-time when playing Oklahoma on neutral courts … Prior to facing off at last year’s ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Seattle, the two teams had not met since the 1989 season.

Last Time We Met
Raphael Hemmeler won his doubles match and came from behind in singles to clinch a 4-0 Duke victory over the Sooners Feb. 15, 2013 in the first round of play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Seattle … Hemmeler and Henrique Cunha claimed the first win of the evening on court one and Fred Saba and Chris Mengel clinched the doubles point from the No. 3 position … Michael Redlicki and Mengel recorded victories from courts three and four in singles before Hemmeler clinched the team win.

Scouting the Sooners
Oklahoma has tallied a 12-1 record this spring and is currently the second-ranked team in the nation … The Sooners upset No. 1 Ohio State, 4-1, and topped Wake Forest, 5-2, last week to extend their win streak to six consecutive matches … The squad advanced to the second round of the ITA National Indoor Championship last month before falling to No. 2 UCLA, 4-2 … Oklahoma’s lineup features a pair of top-five singles players in No. No. 2 Axel Alvarez Llamas and No. 5 Guillermo Alcorta ... Alcorta is 7-4 at the No. 1 spot this spring ... Andrew Harris (No. 35), Dane Webb (No. 43) and Jakob Sude (t-No. 72) are also among the top 125 players in the nation ... In doubles, the 36th-ranked duo of Harris and Webb has compiled a 5-2 record in the No. 1 slot ... Webb is also ranked 74th with teammate Austin Siegel while Peerakit Siributwong and Nick Papac are listed 75th ... Duke and the Sooners will square off at the University of San Diego’s Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.

Scouting the Blue Devils
Duke notched a 7-0 sweep of then-No. 19 NC State in the teams’ ACC opener Sunday, March 9 in Raleigh ... The win moved the Blue Devils to 8-3 on the season ... Sophomore Michael Redlicki, the 30th-ranked player in the ITA singles poll, leads the team from the No. 1 position with a 5-1 dual match ledger ... No. 40 Jason Tahir has compiled an 8-2 record this spring while No. 58 Fred Saba has gone 6-2 at the No. 2 and 3 spots in the lineup ... Sophomore Bruno Semenzato, the 92nd-ranked player on the ITA list, is 6-1 from the No. 4 slot ... Redlicki and Tahir combine to form the nation’s 28th-ranked doubles pair and have teamed up to go 4-2 in dual matches.

Tahir Tabbed ACC Player of the Week
Junior Jason Tahir was named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Tuesday, March 11 after helping guide the Blue Devils to the 7-0 win over the Wolfpack ... The Rochester, N.Y., native paired with sophomore Michael Redlicki in doubles to top NC State’s 42nd-ranked tandem of Robbie Mudge and Ian Dempster in the No. 1 contest, 8-7 (4) ... Tahir then extended Duke’s lead to 2-0 in the match, racing to a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of No. 91 Mudge in the No. 2 singles matchup ... The decision marked Tahir’s eighth consecutive victory and moved him to 14-4 overall ... Tahir received the weekly ACC accolade for the first time in his career.

Win Streaks in Singles
Junior Jason Tahir has won eight consecutive matches in singles heading into the meeting with San Diego State Thursday ... Freshman TJ Pura has notched seven-straight wins dating back to the fall after posting his first victory in dual match play against Illinois Jan. 31 ... Sophomore Michael Redlicki has logged five consecutive wins from the No. 1 singles position, including a 6-3, 7-5 defeat of No. 45 Austin Powell of the Wolfpack ... As a team, Duke is 46-14 in dual match singles contests this season for a .767 winning percentage.
