DURHAM, N.C. – After starting nine games in the defensive backfield as a true freshman in 2013, safety Deondre Singleton completed his first spring practice session as a Blue Devil last week, and the Dacula, Ga., native looks back on his first season in the program in this interview with Ryan Craig.
This past season, Singleton played in 11 games with nine starting assignments and totaled 63 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, two caused fumbles and one interception. He twice reached double figures in the tackle column with 10-stop outings in wins over N.C. State and Miami.
With the 2014 campaign on the horizon, Duke returns 44 lettermen and 17 starters – including three All-Americans and eight All-ACC picks – from last year’s unit that went 10-4, captured the ACC’s Coastal Division championship and appeared in the 46th annual Chick-fil-A Bowl. Cutcliffe, who enters his seventh season atop the program, earned ACC Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year and received National Coach of the Year accolades from five outlets.
The Blue Devils will open the 2014 season at home against Elon on Saturday, August 30. Duke season tickets may be purchased online at GoDuke.com/tickets or by calling the Duke Athletic Ticket Office at 919-681-BLUE.
