DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University field hockey head coach Pam Bustin has been selected for induction into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame, as announced by the organization Wednesday, Apr. 9.

Bustin, who guided the Blue Devil program to a 17-7 record and an appearance in the NCAA championship game during the 2013 campaign, will join the other members of the 2014 class as the first group to be inducted into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame since 2004.

The team captain of the United States’ under-21 team from 1987-89, Bustin competed in the 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1990 U.S. Olympic Festivals. In 1989, she helped the U.S. capture a silver medal at the Junior Pan American Games before being named to the U.S. National Team, playing with the national squad through the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. As a member of the 1996 Olympic team, Bustin helped Team USA earn a fifth-place finish.

Since joining the coaching ranks, Bustin has remained involved with the national team, serving as an assistant for Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  That U.S. squad earned the country’s first Olympic berth since 1996 and went on to place eighth in Beijing. Bustin currently serves as an assistant coach with the U.S. national under-19 and under-21 teams.

At the collegiate level, Bustin has revitalized the Duke program in her three seasons in Durham. She has directed the Blue Devils to a 38-26 record in that time, as well as trips to the NCAA title match in 2013 and the NCAA quarterfinals in 2011. She was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association South Region Coach of the Year this past fall and the ACC Coach of the Year in 2011 during her first season at Duke. Bustin also achieved the 200th victory of her coaching career during the fall in a thrilling NCAA semifinal win that lifted the Blue Devils to their first NCAA championship game appearance since 2005.

An All-America and All-Atlantic 10 honoree during her collegiate playing career at the University of Massachusetts (1985-88), Bustin was inducted in the UMass Hall of Fame in 2012.

The USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place June 28 at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa.
