DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University senior Fred Saba of the men’s tennis team was selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after collecting the 100th singles victory of his career Sunday, Apr. 13 in a 7-0 sweep of Georgia Tech.

Saba, the 46th-ranked player in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I poll, went 2-0 in ACC singles action last weekend to help Duke defeat No. 20 Clemson and No. 72 Georgia Tech. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native topped then-No. 99 Dominique Maden of the Tigers in three sets on court two, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 and cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Georgia Tech’s Eduardo Segura on Sunday. The win over Segura marked the 100th of Saba’s collegiate career, making him the 12th Blue Devil in program history to achieve the feat. The senior right-hander owns a season ledger of 18-6 in singles, including a 10-2 mark at the No. 2 position in the lineup.

In doubles, Saba paired with junior Raphael Hemmeler to knock off No. 43 Segura and Carlos Benito of the Yellow Jackets, 8-3. Saba and Hemmeler are listed 69th in this week’s doubles rankings and currently sit at 12-4 for the season and 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles spot.

Saba and the 14th-ranked Blue Devils conclude regular season action this weekend, traveling to No. 25 Wake Forest Friday, Apr. 18 before hosting No. 8 North Carolina on Senior Day Sunday, Apr. 20.
