DURHAM, N.C. – Carolyn Riggs, who competed with the Duke women’s soccer team from 2002-05 is preparing for her first Boston Marathon, which will take place April 21, 2014 in Boston, Mass.
A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Riggs had worked for two summers in Boston during law school and now works in the city as an associate at Campbell Campbell Edwards & Conroy.
Riggs competed in 85 career matches in a Blue Devil uniform, while totaling 28 goals, 15 assists and 71 points. The forward started 38 matches and was a Soccer Buzz All-Freshman and All-ACC Freshman Team selection in 2002.
One of the main reasons Riggs is running in the 2014 Boston Marathon is to raise money for the One Fund Boston, which is the official charity formed to raise money to help the victims and families most affected by the marathon tragedy in 2013. The One Fund has been at the heart of the “Boston Strong” movement, and continues to lead efforts to help survivors continue their recovery efforts.
Riggs will be one of 50 runners representing the One Fund Team Monday. The team is comprised of runners of every level of experience, selected from essay submissions sharing applicants’ personal stories about how they’d been impacted by the tragedy.
This will be Riggs first marathon she will compete in. Riggs is committed to raising $10,000 for the One Fund. To donate, head here.
