DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke University women’s basketball All-America Georgia Schweitzer will be inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame May 17 in Columbus, Ohio at the ninth annual ceremony at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

Schweitzer helped lead the Blue Devils to their first NCAA Final Four in 1999, while knocking off three-time defending NCAA Champion Tennessee in the NCAA Elite Eight.  Schweitzer, who was named the NCAA East Regional MVP as a sophomore, scored 22 points versus the Lady Vols and eventually led Duke to the NCAA Championship game before falling to Purdue.

A 6-0 guard, Schweitzer went on to be named ACC Player of the Year as a junior and senior and was selected a Kodak All-America in 2001.  She helped led Duke to its first ACC Championship in 2000 and earned ACC Tournament MVP in 2001 leading the Blue Devils to a second straight title.  Schweitzer, who graduated in 2001 with a degree in environmental science, closed her career with 1,620 points, 533 rebounds, 428 assists and 171 steals.

Following her career at Duke, Schweitzer spent the summers of 2001-03 playing for the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx, before returning to her alma mater to be an assistant coach and enroll in medical school. She received her medical degree in 2008 and she is currently the Chief Resident at Duke Hospital.

A Gahanna, Ohio native and graduate of Bishop Hartley H.S., Schweitzer was the captain of her high school squad for three seasons and earned Team MVP each of her four years on the varsity team.  She earned County and District Player of the Year accolades as a senior and led her team to the state finals as a senior.  She reached the 1,000-point mark during her junior campaign.  Schweitzer also lettered in volleyball and track and field.
