THE HAGUE, Netherlands – Former Blue Devil defender Stefanie Fee and the United States’ women’s national field hockey team opened play at the 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup in thrilling fashion, upsetting third-seeded England by a 2-1 score Sunday June 1 at Kyocera Stadium.

Team USA took an early lead off of a penalty corner opportunity in the third minute and added a second score on another corner in the 15th minute of play.

England responded with a goal in the 56th minute but the U.S. held on the rest of the way for the 2-1 victory.

“We started off in a good position,” said U.S. Women’s Head Coach Craig Parnham. “At times during the match it’s about being able to ride the storm and in the second half especially our defense did just that. Our team played a great game of hockey today.”

The U.S. squad resumes World Cup play Tuesday, June 3 at 11:30 a.m. EST against second-seeded Argentina. The match will be streamed live on ESPN3.
