COMMERCE CITY, COLO. – The United States, with a pair of former Blue Devils suiting up in the red white and blue, eased past Canada 10-7 in the opener of the Federation of International Lacrosse opener Thursday night. Former Duke players Ned Crotty and David Lawson saw action on the field, while Kevin Cassese was on the sideline coaching for Team USA.

Duke was also represented on Canada with Zack Greer lining up at attack and Taylor Wray coaching. Lawson finished with an assist, while Crotty was held without a goal on four shots on frame. Greer tallied a pair of late goals for Canada.

Canada raced out to a 3-0 early, but the United States responded with five unanswered and took a 6-3 lead into halftime. Team USA held Canada to just seven shots in the first half.

The U.S. maintained control in the second half, building its lead to five, 9-4, after three quarters. Canada made a late push in the fourth quarter, pulling within three with just under three minutes to play before the United States ran out the clock.

The United States are back in action Saturday against Australia at 7 p.m. (EDT). Canada plays England at 10 p.m.
