Robbie Church, who is starting his 14th year at Duke.DURHAM, N.C.—The Duke women’s soccer team went through a two hour practice session Wednesday morning as the Blue Devils kicked off the 2014 preseason under the direction of head coach
“I thought the kids worked extremely hard,” commented Church. “Looking on when they ran the beep test they looked really good. We will sit down and evaluate the results, but overall I think our fitness level is high at this stage.”
Duke opened the morning session with fitness testing for the first hour before moving to the field for an hour of practice. The Blue Devils will practice in Durham through Sunday morning before traveling to Wrightsville Beach, N.C., for practice and team bonding.
“I was very happy how we carried it over to the field session this morning,” said Church. “I didn’t think we had any drops. Sometimes after you get through testing they exhale a little but we didn’t have any drop in our play. I am very happy with the first practice. Now we go home, rest and recover a little bit before the afternoon session.”
Duke will host South Carolina Thursday, Aug. 14 at 7:00 p.m., in an exhibition contest in Durham, N.C., followed by an exhibition match at UNC Wilmington Saturday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. The Blue Devils will open the regular season Friday, Aug. 22 at 5:00 p.m., versus Ohio State in Chapel Hill, N.C.
