DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s basketball team opened exhibition play Tuesday night with a 115-58 win over Livingstone College. Duke used a balanced attack on offense with seven different Blue Devils scoring in double-figures, led by freshman Justise Winslow’s game-high 19 points.

The Blue Devils built their lead early and went into halftime up 56-14 , highlighted by a 16-2 run to start the game and ending the half on a 25-2 spree. Sophomore Matt Jones knocked down 4-of-4 three-pointers and scored 14 of his 17 points in the first period to ignite the offense. As a team, Duke connected on  15-of-32 three-point attempts for a 46.9 success rate. Winslow, senior Quinn Cook and freshman Grayson Allen each chipped in three treys of their own.

Freshmen Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor also played well in their preseason debuts. Jones found open Blue Devils frequently throughout the contest, dishing out 11 assists to go with four points and four rebounds. Okafor turned in an efficient performance by going 6-of-7 from the field for a total of 15 points and rejected three shots.

The Blue Devil defense stifled Livingstone all night, holding the Blue Bears to a 41.0 field goal percentage. Duke’s on-ball pressure caused problems for the opposing ball-handlers, forcing 21 Livingstone turnovers. Duke also outrebounded Livingstone by a 46-27 margin. Junior Amile Jefferson and sophomore Semi Ojeleye paced the home team with eight rebounds apiece.

For Livingstone, Cornelius Johnson led the Blue Bears with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Duke returns to Cameron Indoor Stadium Saturday, Nov. 8 to take on Central Missouri in its final exhibition game. Tip-off for this weekend’s game is set for 1 p.m.
