INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Duke’s Jahlil Okafor received the Pete Newell Big Man of the Year Award presented by Spalding Sunday at the NABC Sports Awards Banquet Show in Indianapolis, Ind. Okafor becomes the second player in Duke history to earn the honor after Mason Plumlee won the same award in 2013. Okafor is also the second player in ACC history to garner the accolade.

Okafor, a consensus All-America honoree, helped lead Duke to its 11th national championship game appearance. The Chicago, Ill., native leads the team in both points per game (17.5) and rebounds per game (8.6) this season, while his 66.7 percent field goal percentage ranks second in the nation. Okafor set a Duke freshman record with 34 double-digit scoring games, while his 319 rebounds are the most by a Duke freshman.

Okafor has received a slew of honors during his freshman campaign, being named the Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Year, ACC Player of the Year and ACC Rookie of the Year, among others.

Okafor enters the final game of the season ranked second on Duke’s all-time field goal percentage list, second on the points scored by a freshman list and third on Duke’s all-time offensive rebounds list.
