2017-18: A thrower who competed in five events during the indoor season and nine during the outdoor campaign, finishing in the top five on seven different occasions across 2018 … threw a personal-best 57-0.75 in the weight throw at the UCS Invite (2/17), a mark that ranks second all-time in Duke history … qualified for the ACC Indoor Championships in the weight throw where he finished eighth with a throw of 56-6.50 … earned first at the Outdoor Opener (3/24) in the hammer throw with a throw of 186-7 … earned Second Team All-ACC honors, taking home fifth at the ACC Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw with a throw of 189-6, which serves as his personal-best and the second all-time performance in school history … selected to the 2018 All-ACC Academic Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Team.

2016-17: Competed in seven events during the indoor season and six events during the outdoor campaign…Qualified for the ACC Indoor Championships (2/25) in the weight throw, where he threw 55-4.25, which was a personal best as well as the second furthest distance in Duke history…Threw a personal best 179-11 in the hammer throw at the Virginia Grand Prix (4/29)…Qualified for the ACC Outdoor Championships (5/14) in the hammer throw and finished in ninth place…Named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

2015-16: Participated in three competitions during the indoor season and six during the outdoor campaign…in indoor competition, finished seventh at the Carolina Cup (1/15) in the weight throw, tossing the implement 45-5.25 (13.85)…earned ninth at the Camel City Invitational (1/29) with a mark of 49-0.25 (14.94)…posted a 10th-place finish in the shot put after tossing the implement 47-7.00 (14.50)…during the outdoor season, finished fifth in discus at the Battle of the Blues (4/2) after throwing a mark of 148-0 (25.12)…claimed fifth in the hammer throw at the Wolfpack Last Chance (5/6) with a distance of 177-5 (54.09)…posted a top-20 performance in the hammer throw at the ACC Outdoor Championships (5/13), finishing 16th after tossing the implement 170-2 (51.87). 

Prior to Duke: Three-year letterwinner in track & field at East Chapel Hill High School under the coaching tutelage of Steve Marquis...USATF Junior Olympic All-American in 2014 and 2015…garnered NCHSAA all-state honors during the 2015 outdoor and 2014 indoor seasons…named to the 2015 News & Observer All-Metro Track & Field Team…MVP of the East Chapel Hill High School track & field team as a junior and senior…two-time NCHSAA Midwest Regional champion in the discus...captured four conference titles during his high school career, winning both the discus and shot put at the PAC-6 meet in 2014 and 2015…as a senior, earned silver in the discus at the North Carolina 4A State Meet, helping him earn PAC-6 Conference Field Athlete of the Year honors...finished eighth overall in the event at the 2015 USATF Junior Olympics National Championships in the 17-18 division...his junior season, finished fourth at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals - Emerging Elites meet...throwing the shot put indoors, captured the bronze medal at the 2014 state championships…while at East Chapel Hill, received a 2015 National Achievement Scholarship…AP Scholar with Honors…an Eagle Scout…completed an internship at Piedmont Investment Advisors.

Personal: Son of Joseph and Emma Battle…born July 23, 1997 in Greensboro, N.C….has one brother, Khari…mother and father were both 1983 graduates of Duke…father also earned his master’s at Duke, a 1984 graduate of the Fuqua School of Business.
