Duke’s 2V4 Tabbed ACC Crew of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke’s second varsity four was named the ACC Crew of the Week Tuesday after defeating No. 8 Texas, Notre Dame and Iowa in the A finals at the Longhorn Invite, held Saturday on Walter E. Long Lake in Austin, Texas. It is the league’s second weekly honor presented this season, both going to the Blue Devils as the V8 earned recognition March 21.

During the morning session at the Longhorn Invite, Duke’s 2V4 hit the end in 7:15.973 to Iowa’s 7:11.236. The Blue Devils’ boat was third at the 1,000-meter mark (3:35.5), nearly two full seconds behind Oklahoma (3:33.8), but burst past the Sooners over the final 1,000 meters to place second, more than three full seconds ahead of OU (7:19.325).

With its morning time, Duke’s 2V4 advanced to the A final and claimed the title with a time of 7:19.749 to beat out Texas (7:21.428), Notre Dame (7:23.312) and Iowa (7:24.261). The Blue Devils held the lead at the 1,000-meter mark and held off a hard-charging Texas squad for the championship.

The Saturday crew for the Blue Devils’ 2V4 was composed of sophomore coxswain Jiahui Liao (Manlius, New York), freshman Madison Brown (Sarasota, Florida), senior Caroline Willis (Tampa, Florida), sophomore Marissa Donadio (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and freshman Bella Miller (Wilmette, Ill.).

Duke will next be in action at the ACC-Big Ten Duels on April 15 in Columbus, Ohio.
