DURHAM, N.C. – Junior Leona Maguire of the Duke women’s golf team was selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week, after she claimed individual medalist honors at the ACC Championship over the weekend at the Reserve Golf Club in Pawleys Island, S.C.
Maguire, who hails from Cavan, Ireland, totaled rounds of 68, 72 and 70 over the three days for a six-under-par, 210, on her way to winning the ACC individual title for the second time in her three years with the Blue Devils. As a team, Duke won the team title for the 20th time in school history as the Blue Devils placed all five golfers in the top 17 of the leaderboard.
With the win, Maguire now owns three wins this season and seven in her career, which ranks tied for the third-most in school history. She also joined only Amanda Blumenherst (3), Brittany Lang (2) and Jenny Chuasiriporn (2) as multiple ACC individual medalists from the Blue Devils.
Duke will next await the NCAA regional selection, which will take place Thursday, April 27 at 11 a.m., live on the Golf Channel. The Blue Devils will also compete in the Northwestern Quad match play competition April 29 in Glencoe, Ill.
