DURHAM, N.C.— Duke women's soccer program will welcome another standout recruiting class to the mix in 2017 as head coach Robbie Church and his staff landed the No. 5 overall class.  During the spring and summer, will spotlight each of the eight newcomers.

The first rookie that will be spotlighted is Karlie Paschall, who is a 5-5 midfielder/forward from Brentwood, Tenn.  Paschall, the No. 9 overall recruit in the 2017 class by TopDrawerSoccer, has been a mainstay on the United States National teams over the last number of years and has currently been competing with the U-20 squad.  Paschall attended Ravenwood H.S., and notched 18 goals and 13 assists as a senior.

Get to Know Paschall –

What do you enjoy most about playing soccer?
I enjoy most the places soccer takes me and the people I meet. Some of my best friends live on the other side of the country because I've met them and gotten to grow so close with them through soccer.

What age did you start playing soccer?
I started playing soccer at age four.

What are some of the strengths of your soccer game?
Some of the strengths of my soccer game are my composure on the ball, my creativity, and my passion.
When/why did you decide soccer was going to be your sport you concentrated on?
I decided around age six that soccer would be the sport I concentrated on because I loved it so much and wanted to play it as much and as often as possible.
What are you most looking forward to when you arrive on campus at Duke?
I'm most looking forward to hanging out with the girls on the team and exploring all the opportunities Duke has to offer.
Who has had the greatest influence on your game?
I've been blessed with some incredible role models and coaches in my soccer career, and a few of the coaches who have impacted who I am as a player and person are Nicole Stephens and Ronnie Woodard.
What are you planning on doing this summer?
This summer I will mainly be focused on training and increasing my fitness level so that I am prepared when coming into preseason. My club team will also be competing in the State, Regional, and National tournaments and we will be training for those as well.
What do most people don't know about you?
Most people don't know that I used to have a speech impediment, I couldn't say my "r's."

Hidden/Special talents: Riding dirt bikes, driving a stick shift, I can tell what type of car is coming in the nighttime by its headlights
Favorite Dessert: Anything chocolate
Favorite type of music: Country (good thing I live in Nashville)
