DURHAM, N.C.— Duke women's soccer program will welcome another standout recruiting class to the mix in 2017 as head coach Robbie Church and his staff landed the No. 5 overall class. During the spring and summer, GoDuke.com will spotlight each of the eight newcomers.
The second rookie that will be spotlighted is Gabi Brummett, who is a 5-7 forward from Bow, N.H. The Derryfield School standout is the No. 25 overall recruit in the TopDrawerSoccer class of 2017. Brummett was a 2016 American Family Insurance All-USA Preseason Girls Soccer Team honoree and 2015 All-America selection. She was a three-time Gatorade New Hampshire Girls' Soccer Player of the Year (2013, 2014, 2015).

What do you enjoy most about playing soccer?
I enjoy the relationships formed with teammates and coaches the most. Also winning.
What age did you start playing soccer?
Three years old
What are some of the strengths of your soccer game?
I think I read the game well and am good at combination play to get off clean finishes. I have been working on my defensive game as well.
When/why did you decide soccer was going to be your sport you concentrated on?
I used to play defense in town soccer when I was little cause I was feisty, and I can vividly remember one game we were winning by a lot and my coach put me at forward. I scored my first goal ever pretty quickly and I just immediately had this feeling like “yeah, this is what I want to do.” I also had recently fouled out of a basketball game in the first quarter for the second week in a row so, although I really enjoyed it, basketball wasn't really a realistic option.
What are you most looking forward to when you arrive on campus at Duke?
Mostly truly becoming part of the Duke family and getting to spend time with all of the girls. The weather is nice too.
Who has had the greatest influence on your game?
One of the many people who have had a huge influence on my game is my first true soccer coach, Chuck Breton. He taught me how to play soccer how it's meant to be played and always believed in me.
What are you doing this summer?
I'm playing on the WPSL team for my club, working with my trainer, and hanging with my friends and family.
What do most people don't know about you?
I used to be a competitive gymnast.
