Every Thursday during the summer GoDuke.com will take a look back at former Duke men's tennis All-America selections. The Blue Devils have had 22 players earn a total of 39 total All-America honors. Nicolas Alvarez was Duke's last All-America selection, picking up the accolade in 2015.

Chiam Arlosoroff (1982)
Chiam Arlosoroff is the owner of multiple firsts for the Duke men's tennis program. The Tel Aviv, Israel, native became the Blue Devils' first All-America selection (1982) and first ACC Tournament MVP (1982). He did this all his freshman year of 1982, when leading Duke to its first NCAA Championship appearance and ACC title, aided by the No. 1 singles flight championship at the league tournament.

Arlosoroff was named to the ACC's 50th Anniversary Men's Tennis Team on September 4, 2002.

After the ACC Championship run, Arlosoroff was selected for the NCAA Singles Tournament and was a seeded player. He faced Tom Foster of Georgia in the opening round and earned a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory before falling to Arkansas' Peter Doohan 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the second round. He ended the year ranked No. 17 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Arlosoroff had only one year of eligibility at Duke due to his participation with the Israeli national team. Before arriving in Durham, Arlosoroff was a member of the Israel Davis Cup Team from 1978-82 after serving as a combat medic in the Israel Defense Forces (1976-79).

While with the Davis Cup team, he took part in matches against West Germany, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia and Monaco. During this same time, he was a member of the Professional Tennis Circuit (1979-81) and achieved world rankings in singles and doubles. He participated in all four major tournaments: Wimbledon, U.S. Open, French Open and Australian Open.

Arlosoroff currently works with Orthopaedic Care Specialists in North Palm Beach, Fla., and has been an Orthopedic Surgery Section Chief at a trio of hospitals in the West Palm Beach area. He was named one of America's Top Surgeons by the Consumers' Research Counsel of America in 2002-03.
