DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University assistant coach Rene Haynes was one of 11 people recently inducted into the Greater Columbus Basketball Legends Hall of Fame, which took place in Columbus, Ohio.

Haynes, who is in her fourth season on Joanne P. McCallie’s staff at Duke, played high school basketball at The Wellington School from 1999-2003. She was a First Team All-District selection each of her four years and was selected District Player of the Year as a junior and senior.

A two-time First Team All-State selection as a junior and senior, while also earning Second Team All-State accolades as a sophomore, Haynes went on to play collegiate hoops at Michigan State.

Haynes made an immediate impact with the Spartans earning Big Team All-Freshman Team honors in 2004. She was a captain each of her final three years at Michigan State and helped lead the Spartans to the NCAA Championship game as a sophomore. As a senior, Haynes received Second Team All-Big Team accolades along with All-Big Ten Defensive Team honors. She competed in 135 career games, which is the most in MSU history, and was a member of the winningest senior class in school history with 103 victories.

She went on to play professionally in Netherlands and Finland, while helping her Catz squad to the Finish League Championship in 2009.

After spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Western Michigan, Haynes was reunited with McCallie at Duke in 2014. Haynes is currently one of two recruiting coordinators with the Blue Devils along with Hernando Planells. In her first season at Duke, she helped land the No. 1 rated recruiting class in the nation.
