DURHAM, N.C. – After shutting down the third-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers on the road Friday night, Duke senior EJ Proctor has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The Wilson, N.C., native recorded a season-high five saves on 14 shots faced en route to earning her second-straight shutout and third of the year in No. 11 Duke’s dominating 4-0 win against WVU in Morgantown. Her stellar play between the posts secured Duke’s sixth-straight win at the team, the longest streak since 2011. She also helped the Blue Devils snap a two-match losing streak to the Mountaineers, including avenging last year’s heartbreaking 1-0 loss in the NCAA quarterfinals.
Friday night’s win also snapped WVU’s streak of 43-straight home matches without a regulation loss.
With the shutout, Proctor improved her career goals against average to 0.77, which remains tops in the Duke record books. It was also the 23rd clean sheet of her career, moving her to seven behind third place in school history.
After picking up their seventh-straight win in a 2-1 thriller against No. 21 Utah last night at Koskinen, the Blue Devils now set their sights on ACC play. First up will be Virginia Tech, as Duke welcomes the Hokies to Koskinen Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, which can be accessed on WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app.
