LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In its last race before the ACC Cross Country Championships, the Duke women’s cross country team finished in 14th place at Pre Nationals on Saturday morning.

Duke finished with 465 points to finish 14th in the 43 team field. Oregon took the team title with 63 points.

“I’m very pleased with the results today,” head coach Rhonda Riley said. “The ladies ran with a lot of composure in this competitive environment.”

For the fourth time in four races this season, Duke’s top two finishers were freshman Amanda Beach and Michaela Reinhart. This weekend it was Beach who was the top Blue Devil finisher, as she ran the six kilometer course in 20:49.8 to finish in 59th place. Not far behind her was Reinhart who came in 76th with a time of 20:58.6.

“Michaela and Amanda have loved running with each other,” said Riley. “They both have strengths of their own and feed off of each other.”

Next up for Duke was sophomore Sophia Parvizi-Wayne, who clocked a 21:08.3 to come in 90th in her second race of the season. The final two scoring Duke runners came in very close to each other. Junior Kim Hallowes ran a time of 21:23.6 to come in 122nd and sophomore Lindsay Billings finished in 21:29.5 to take 130th place.

“They are all improving,” Riley said. “With two more weeks of training, they will be in a good spot for the ACC Championships.”

There were six ACC squads in the Pre Nationals field. Duke finished behind Virginia Tech and Louisville, who came in 11th and 12th respectively. However, the Blue Devils finished ahead of Wake Forest (20th), Pittsburgh (25th), and Boston College (36th).

“I feel good going into the ACC Championships,” commented Riley. “This squad still has a lot of room to improve and they are excited to put it together when it counts.”

The Blue Devils will start the postseason with the ACC Cross Country Championships which will take place in Louisville, Ky., on Friday, Oct.  27.
