DURHAM, N.C. – The preseason 12th-ranked Duke women’s basketball team welcomed fourth-ranked Alaska Anchorage to Cameron Indoor Stadium Sunday evening to conclude exhibition play. The Blue Devils came away with the 87-56 victory as redshirt seniors Lexie Brown and Rebecca Greenwell combined for 47 points.

Brown brought in 27 points and went 10-for-16 from the floor, 5-of-8 from behind the arc and tallied three assists to go along with two steals. Greenwell finished with 20, going 8-of-16 from the floor, 5-of-9 from three-point land, collected seven rebounds and added six assists and five steals to her overall performance. Together, Brown and Greenwell tallied all eight of Duke’s three-pointers.

The Blue Devils opened the game on a 10-0 run with contributions from Brown and Greenwell from behind the arc. Brown hit a quick three in the first 30 seconds of the first quarter and followed up with a second to end the quarter leading 26-13.

Alaska Anchorage, a Division II team coming off 30-2 committed seven turnovers in the second quarter, allowing Duke to extend the lead. Sophomore Leaonna Odom collected eight points for a team-high 12 going into halftime and finished the contest with 15. Brown caused two quick turnovers to secure four fast break points in the paint. Duke capitalized with 23 points from Alaska Anchorage’s 20 turnovers.

By the beginning of the fourth quarter, Brown, Greenwell and Odom were in double figures, with Odom two boards shy of a double-double.

Brown registered a crowd-pleasing block early in the fourth quarter with a massive rejection in the paint on a Seawolves fast break and Erin Mathias led the team in blocks with five.

As a team, Duke shot 50.0 percent from the floor (35-of-70) and 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the free-throw line. The Blue Devils outrebounded Alaska Anchorage 48-34 and added 50 points in the paint to Alaska’s 28.

The Blue Devils will hit the road this week for the 2017-18 season-opener at Grand Canyon for a Sunday evening matchup at 5 p.m., live on ESPN3.
