DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman attacker Charlotte North secured her fourth hat trick in as many collegiate games, but the 16th-ranked Blue Devils surrendered a 15-5 loss to 25th-ranked Stanford on Friday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium.

Duke fell to 3-2 on the season while the Cardinal evened its record at 2-2.

Stanford’s Ali Baiocco and Blue Devil senior attacker Kyra Harney swapped tallies inside the opening three minutes before the visitors took off on a seven-goal run. Taylor Scornavacco of the Cardinal scored twice in that span while Baoicco earned a first-half hat trick.

North broke up the scoring spurt with a goal at the 5:52 mark, but Stanford tacked on two more in response to take a 10-2 lead at the intermission.

The Cardinal found the back of the net twice in the early minutes of the second half, and made it six unanswered on ensuing goals by Galen Lew and Baiocco, who would go on to finish with five tallies on the day.

North broke through again around the 12-minute mark, and along with sophomore midfielder Lindsey Reynolds, added goals inside the final six minutes.

Stanford won the draw by a narrow 7-6 margin in the first half, but would take the category by a 14-8 margin for the contest. On the day, the Cardinal also outshot the Blue Devils, 36-24, and picked up 18 ground balls to 16 by the home squad. Senior midfielder Maddie Crutchfield recorded a team-high four ground balls in the loss while freshmen Catriona Barry and Abby Landry notched two caused turnovers each.

Sophomore Gabbe Cadoux and junior Jamie Lockwood shared time in the net, combining for 10 stops. Allie DaCar totaled 12 saves for Stanford on the other end.

Duke returns to Koskinen Stadium Sunday to host Boston University in a 1 p.m. contest on ACC Network Extra.
