Hey Duke Fans!
It’s my favorite time of the year. I think there is something special coming up…oh yeah MARCH MADNESS!! I love the excitement and energy of this month and everything that comes with tournament time. We were definitely disappointed with our outing at the ACC Tournament, but there is so much to be proud of about this season. The adversity that we were hit with was unexpected and unfortunate and we handled it better than most teams would. It was nice to see the growth and increasing maturity of the team throughout the course of the season.
But enough about the regular season! Everyone is 0-0 now! We can create a whole new identity in March, bust some people’s brackets, and just have a ton of fun these next few weeks. There has definitely been a mix of excitement and sadness thinking about how this is going to be my final NCAA Tournament. Fortunately, I really have experienced almost every type of season possible for a basketball player. As a freshman, played with a super veteran group that had some struggles and an early exit in the conference tournament, which led to NCAA Final Four run as a No. 4 seed. Sophomore year, I was part of an amazing team that went undefeated in conference (was STILL not expected to make a deep run) and made a NCAA Final Four run as a No. 1 seed. And experiences here at Duke have ranged from not even making it to making a splash during regular season and earning a No. 2 seed, but getting upset early. Again, this tournament is going to be an experience that I have never had before…leaving home for the first weekend. We are accepting this challenge head on. It seems to be fitting that with our struggles on the road this entire season, the most important games of the year will be away from the comfy confines of Cameron Indoor Stadium. However, we do get to play in Athens, Ga., which is about an hour and a half away from where I live. I don’t think that this story can be written even better. This might be the most excited I have been for a NCCA Tournament. Everyone has been working really hard and is super locked in for our first game on Saturday.
This season has been full of ups and downs for sure, but I wouldn’t want to have it any other way because nothing worth having comes easy. Coach P has been preaching about loving and embracing the process and not just the end results. I think that is something that has been super relevant for this season and for life. I am definitely ready for my last dance!
Also, definitely would love to see lots of Duke blue in Athens this weekend. We love seeing you guys in the stands, especially on the road. I PROMISE we won’t let you guys down!! I know the Brown family will be in full affect this weekend!
Thank you guys for EVERYTHING this season, but we aren’t done yet!
