DURHAM, N.C. – Brooke Heinsohn’s international travels continue this week, as the standout goalkeeper and the U-20 United States Women’s National Team head to Spain for the Women’s U-23 La Manga Tournament.
This will be the third round of U.S. National Team experience for the Blue Devils in 2018. Heinsohn and the U.S. U-20 squad traveled to France in early March, playing the France U-20 WNT twice (W, 1-0 & T, 2-2). Ella Stevens and Kayla McCoy traveled to Portland, Ore., with the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team from March 11-17, playing three matches at the 2018 Thorns Spring Invitational.
The USA will travel to La Manga, Spain March 29 – April 10 for three matches against Under-23 National Teams, starting against Sweden on April 5. Two days later, the USA will face England (April 7) and finish against Italy on April 9. The games are part of a friendly tournament that also features the U-23 Women’s National Teams of France and Norway, as well as the U-20 WNTs of England, China and Norway.
The Norfolk, Mass., native is coming off a rookie year with the Blue Devils where she saw action in six contests, drawing a pair of starts. Heinsohn played the full 90 in Duke’s 2017 home opener against Xavier, a 3-1 victory that sparked the team’s program-record 19-match winning streak. She picked up her second win of the year on Sept. 1, playing 90 minutes in a 1-0 win against UNCW.
This trip adds to Heinsohn’s extensive list of USWNT experience. Prior to the France trip in earlier this month, Heinsohn traveled to Spain with the U-20 National Team in March of 2017 and was also a member of the 2016 U-20 squad that competed in the U-20 World Cup in Papau New Guinea. Heinsohn has been an active participant within the U.S. Women’s National Team program, starting back with being in the U-14 and U-15 Girls National Team pool.
