DURHAM, N.C. – The Women’s Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL) will make its debut this weekend, with three former Blue Devils set to compete on the inaugural day of action.
The Baltimore Brave and Philadelphia Fire will square off Saturday at 4 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., as part of a doubleheader with the Chesapeake Bayhawks and Ohio Machine of Major League Lacrosse. Former Duke defender Maura Schwitter, a 2017 graduate, will be in action for the Brave while recent Duke graduate Maddie Crutchfield and Kerrin Maurer (’15) will take the field for the Fire. In addition, current Blue Devil associate head coach Lauren Morton will serve as an assistant coach with the Fire this season.
Crutchfield was selected 23rd overall in the WPLL’s collegiate draft in May, while Maurer and Schwitter were selected in the league’s inaugural draft last August. The WPLL’s 13-game inaugural season gets underway Saturday. All contests will be streamed across the league and LaxAllStars social media accounts. A complete schedule can be found here.
