DURHAM, N.C. – A year filled with Blue Devils representing the United States carries on next week as Duke women's soccer defender Taylor Mitchell joins the U.S. U-20 squad in Portland, Ore., for the final training camp before the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Mitchell, who was called to the U-19 team in May for a training camp in Chula Vista, Calif., is the fourth Blue Devil to gain U.S. National Team experience in 2018. Brooke Heinsohn and the U.S. U-20 squad made trips to France and Spain earlier this year, while Ella Stevens and Kayla McCoy traveled to Portland with the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team from March 11-17.

U.S. head coach Jitka Klimkova has called up 24 players for the event which will include two matches against the Brazil U-20 WNT and a game against Portland Thorns FC.

This will be the final training camp before Klimkova chooses a 21-player roster for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France. The USA was drawn into Group C for the tournament and opens play Monday, Aug. 6 against Japan (1:30 p.m. ET), faces Paraguay on Thursday, Aug. 9 (1:30 p.m. ET) and finishes the group against Spain on Monday, Aug. 13 (7:30 a.m. ET).

Mitchell is getting set for year two with the Blue Devils after a standout rookie campaign that saw her earn ACC All-Freshman Team honors en route to helping Duke capture its third ACC regular season title and reach its fourth NCAA College Cup. The Tarzana, Calif., native played in all 26 matches in 2017, making 23 starts on one of the nation’s top backlines. With Mitchell’s help, Duke posted a school record 18 shutouts last season while finishing sixth nationally in goals against average (.379) and seventh in shutout percentage (.692).

Along with her U-19 squad experience in May, Mitchell had spent time with the U-18 U.S. National Team prior to coming to Duke. The defender trained with the program and made trips to Spain and England.
