Competition Continues at Fort Worth Tennis Classic

FORT WORTH, Texas – After advancing to the singles main draw at the Fort Worth Tennis Classic in Fort Worth, Texas, rising sophomore Kelly Chen continued her streak by moving on to the second round.

Chen defeated Lauren Proctor (2-6, 6-1, 6-1) Wednesday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center at Texas Christian University. Chen will now face Whitney Osuigwe in the second round on Thursday.

In addition to her singles play, Chen will also take the court with doubles partner Paige Mary Hourigan. The duo advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw and will take on Akiko Omae/Nagi Hanatani on Thursday after defeating Alexandra Riley/Nastja Kolar (5-7. 6-2, 10-4) on Tuesday.

Incoming Blue Devil Maria Mateas will also be competing Thursday in the singles main draw second round and will take on Lorraine M. Guillermo.
