DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women’s soccer coach Robbie Church added an eighth member to his nationally-ranked 2019 signing class on Wednesday, as he announced the addition of Emmy Duerr to the Blue Devil family.
A three-star prospect according to TopDrawerSoccer.com, Duerr joins Sarah Piper, Julia Burnell, Julia Hannon, Natalie Maurer, Sarah Miller and Ruthie Jones in the Blue Devils’ fifth-ranked signing class. This is the eighth-straight year that the Blue Devils have reeled in a top-10 recruiting class, as the eight-member squad showcases six players ranked in TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Top 150, including five inside the top 75. The six Top 150 players are the most in Duke history since the class of 2014, which featured Duke standouts Schuyler DeBree, Imani Dorsey, Ashton Miller and Morgan Reid.
Emmy Duerr | Midfielder | Cary, N.C. (Cardinal Gibbons)
Duerr joins the Blue Devils from down the road in Cary, N.C., where she attended Cardinal Gibbons High School. Ranked 33rd in the South Atlantic Region by TopDrawerSoccer, Duerr played the last two seasons with the NC Courage Girl’s Development Academy, the No. 2 team in the nation. Duerr helped lead her squad to two GDA Conference Championships and is the squad’s current leading scorer. Duerr played the previous five seasons with CASL SCNL, capturing three ECNL Chesapeake Division titles, the 2013 State Cup and 2014 CASL Cup. Duerr was also a part of the U.S. Soccer Training Program from 2014-15.
On the high school level, Duerr played for Cardinal Gibbons her freshman and sophomore years, sitting out the last two due to her time with the NC Courage Girl’s Development Academy. Duerr was twice named All-Conference and landed on the High School All-America Watch List her sophomore season after leading CGHS to a 4A NCHSAA State Finalist showing.
Duerr and the rest of the DWS 2019 signing class will be featured over the next eight weeks on GoDuke.com in the DWS Recruit Spotlight series.
