DURHAM, N.C. – The sixth-ranked Duke women’s fencing team closed out the annual Duke Meet Sunday afternoon in Card Gymnasium with a 3-2 overall record on the weekend. The women’s foil squad posted a perfect 5-0 ledger to make the foil contingent undefeated through the two-day event.

“It was very rewarding for the fencers and coaches to be at home in front of good competition,” head coach Alex Beguinet said. “I am very pleased.”

The No. 6 women picked up wins over Air Force (20-7) and ACC foes Boston College (20-7) and 2018 ACC women’s team champion North Carolina (16-11). The Blue Devils fell only two No. 2 Northwestern (14-13) and No. 4 Penn State (14-13) by one bout each.

The women were led by junior saberist Lindsay Sapienza with a team-leading 12 victories on the day followed by senior foilist Rhiannon Harvey with a nearly flawless 10-1 ledger. Sapienza now leads the team with 48 wins and Harvey holds 43.

Sophomore Julia Gianneschi helped pace the foil squad to a 5-0 record alongside Harvey with eight victories while freshman Ava Navarro also recorded eight wins on the day. Gianneschi owns 43 wins this season while Navarro tallied her 45th victory.
