DURHAM, N.C. – Following Thursday’s announcement by the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Committee, Duke will be represented by 23 athletes and one relay at next week’s NCAA East Preliminary Round meet in Jacksonville, Fla.

Duke qualified 12 female athletes in individual events along with one relay team. Hoping to qualify for the NCAA Championships in their respective events as seniors will be Liz Lansing, Kim Hallowes, India Lowe, Nati Sheppard, Domonique Panton and Stefani Vukajlovic.

Lansing and Hallowes will compete in the 1500m as Hallowes collected second team All-ACC honors last weekend at the conference championships. After her second team All-ACC showing in the 400m last week, Lowe will return to the 400m hurdles as the Duke school-record holder. Sheppard earned a spot on the podium at ACCs with her bronze-medal performance in the pole vault while Panton and Vukajlovic both collected points towards Duke’s overall team score as school-record holders in the triple jump and hammer throw, respectively.

Brittany Aveni looks to qualify for the second-straight year as a junior in the 800m after her second team All-ACC performance last weekend.

Monica Hebner, Lauren Hoffman, Erin Marsh, Sara Platek and Michaela Reinhart will hope to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the first time in their careers. Hebner will compete in the 10000m while Hoffman looks to follow up her bronze-medal performance in the 400m hurdles. Marsh is slated for the 100m hurdles while Platek and Reinhart will both compete in the 5000m. Marsh is also set for the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, after qualifying with her second-place performance at ACCs.

In addition to the individual competition, the Blue Devil women will also field a 4x400m relay team.

Five of Duke’s nine male qualifiers captured All-ACC status at the conference championships last weekend.

Junior Matt Wisner notched silver in the 800m and will once again look to qualify for the NCAA Championships after advancing during the indoor season. Kiegan Lenihan and Alex Miley also garnered first team All-ACC honors and will participate in the javelin and 3000m steeplechase, respectively. Last weekend, Lenihan registered the third-best toss in Duke outdoor history.

Dalton Randall is set for the 5000m while graduate student Charles Cooper is slated for the 1500m. Cooper qualified for the finals at ACCs and posted a personal-best time in the finals. In addition to Lenihan, Michael Marsack is set for the javelin.

Rounding out the men’s squad will be Iyin Battle, Ben Beatty and Rivers Ridout in field events. Rivers is coming off a fifth-place finish in the high jump while Battle and Beatty will compete in the hammer throw and shot put, respectively.

The selected Blue Devils will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., May 23-25 for the preliminary event. The two NCAA preliminary meets, divided between the east and the west, provide an opportunity for the top-12 finishers in each event at each site to qualify for the national championship meet. The combined 24 declared competitors in each event from the two sites will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas June 5-8.
