Team Captain, 1949
Louis Allen, a native of Greensboro, N.C., was a tackle for the Duke football team from 1946 through 1949. He was the Blue Devils' captain and most valuable player as a senior, when he led coach Wallace Wade's team to a 6-3 record.
Allen was named third team All-Southern Conference during his first season, then became one of only six football players in Duke history to earn first-team all-conference honors for three straight seasons. The others are Ace Parker, Tom Davis, Leo Hart, Rich Searl and Clarkston Hines.
As a senior he was selected third team All-America by the Associated Press, played in the Senior Bowl and was a fifth-round draft selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
