Gene Banks was a two-time All-America in men's basketball in 1979 and 1981. He was a freshman starter on Duke's 1978 Cinderella team that advanced to the NCAA championship game under the guidance of Bill Foster.

Banks is the only player in school history to be on the career top ten lists for points, rebounds, assists and steals. He is still sixth all-time in scoring at Duke with 2,079 career points.

The 6-7 forward from Philadelphia, Penn., earned first team All-ACC honors in 1981 and was Rookie of the Year in the league in 1978.

The Blue Devils compiled a 90-37 record and two ACC championships with Banks as a starter.
