Mile Relay Champion at 1942 Penn Relays
The native of Greenville, Del., was a standout on Duke's track teams from 1940-42. Brown won a total of five Southern Conference titles during his career. That figure included an indoor and outdoor sweep of the championships in his specialty - the 440 yard run. Brown also represented Duke in the 1942 Penn Relays where he was a member of the winning mile relay team. The prestigious title topped his senior year when he was also the track team's captain. That year he also set a Southern Conference record in the 440 with a time of 50.9 seconds.
